In the process of putting together this project we’ve come across some associations, companies, and websites that could serve as great resources for visitors to our site. Some are exclusively for young people, some were created by young people, some are neither – but they are all worth a look.

RESOURCES FOR YOUNG AMERICANS

Active Element Foundation - Funds youth organizing and activism across all issues and constituencies, with an emphasis on low-income youth-led groups that are marginalized from major funding. Publications include The Future 500, a comprehensive guide to youth activism and organizing in the United States.

Global Youth Action Network (GYAN) - Connects growing community of young people on lin, and together provide resources to inspire, inform, and involve a generation in creating a better world. The Global Youth Action Network is a growing colllaboration among youth organizations in almost two hundred countries, providing resources and recognition for positive youth action and facilitating intergenerational partnership in global decision-making.

TakingITGlobal - Serves as a resource for youth and organizations working to make a difference. A virtual community and expansive clearinghouse for today's youth movement, the site offers discussion boards, a database of thousands of organizations and events, opportunities, scholarships, internships, on-line diaries and much more.

International Youth Foundation (IYF) - One of the world's largest public foundations focused on children and youth, IYF works with hundreds of companies, foundations, and civil society organizations to strengthen and expand existing programs making a positive and lasting difference in young lives. Currently operating in nearly fifty countries and territories, collaborations have helped more than 26 million young people gain the skills, training, and opportunities critical for success. Programs promote the confidence, character, competence, and connectedness of young people to their family, peers, and community.

 

Youth Venture (part of Ashoka) - A national organization that helps teams of young people (ages ten to twenty) create new ventures (nonprofits, socially oriented businesses, or clubs) to address issues of concern in their communities and the world. Youth Venture welcomes all ideas and application for resources from young people.

Greenpeace Organizing Term - This semester offers hands-on training for students who want to become environmental leaders. Students get over 50 trainings in grassroots, organizing, mediadirect action, and campaign strategy. Students travel abroad with Greenpeace to meet global environment leaders.

National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) - The countries premiere outdoor education school with branches all over the world. Teaching technical hard skills as well as leadership and interpersonal skills. Matt and Ben went on a NOLS trip and called it 'a great experience.' We also got the chance to meet up with Tony, their badass NOLS leader when we passed through Victor, Wyoming. Tony has the second most time in the field of all NOLS leaders.

 

GOOD RESOURCES FOR EVERYONE

Ashoka: Innovators for the Public - Promotes and develops social entrepreneurship around the world and has invested in more than 1,200 leading social entrepreneurs in forty-four countries. Elects emerging social entrepreneurs to an international fellowship of their peers, and provides financial support and other non-financial services to grow these enterprises and assist them in collaborating with like-minded peers around the world. Programs and materials include learning and youth development, environment and health, and other initiatives to identify key principles and successful ideas and strategies, and disseminate them worldwide.

The Natural Step - Seeks to accelerate global sustainability by guiding companies and governments onto an ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable path. The Natural Step works with some of the largest resource users on the planet to create solutions, innovative models, and tools that will lead the transition to a sustainable future. An international organization, Natural Step uses a set of scientifically proven sustainability principles to transform debate into useful discussion and to drive innovation to define the emerging field of sustainability and seeding the foundation for global transformation.
